Temple History

A long time ago, a faithful woman called Thadagai resided in the region. Her entire life revolved around her devotion to the god of Shiva. Shiva.

Each day she would design flower bouquets by fervor and present them directly to God the Lord.

When she put the garland around the god and putting it on the altar, she noticed that her sari started to slide. The woman was in the middle of a tense moment, she was unable to alter her clothes as she didn't want the holy garland falling to the earth.

With her undying devotion to her faith and love for God, Lord Shiva Himself turned His head in order to accept the garland in her hand.

The divine action led to the Lord being popularly known in the form of Aruna Jateshwarar.

A king later, named Manimudi Cholan tried to straighten Lord's neck, but he failed.

Then came a great devotee, Kungiliyakalaya Nayanar from Thirukkadaiyur. He was devoted to the Lord and strung a rope that had one end tied to the neck of the Lord as well as the other to his own and then pulled the rope with all his confidence.

Awakened by the deep bhakti of his heart, Lord Shiva straightened his neck by blessing the devotee.

The temple is a beautiful example of how God is not averse with power, but rather the love of his people..
