Mother Mahalakshmi desired to have her seat in Lord Vishnu's heart. To realize her goal, she came to this place called shenbagaranyam and performed penance. Lord could not bear the separation and took Mahalakshmi into his chest on a Friday in the fullmoon Fortnight in the month of Aippasi.

After getting the permission from Nandhi only, devotees are supposed worship Lord shiva. Ravana tried to enter Kailasam without getting his permission. He cursed Ravana that his country will be destroyed by a Monkey. Also Daksha, father of parvathi performed yagam without inviting Lord shiva. Getting angry, Lord Nandhi went into the yaga Shala along with bhoothas and disturbed the yagam. But Lord Nandhi himself went into Vaikundam without getting the permission from Dwarapalagas. So they cursed nandhi that he will suffer from heat disesase. Nandhi came to this place and worshipped Lord Vishnu here and relieved from his sorrow. So this place is called Thirunandhipura Vinnagaram. The lord is Jagannadha perumal and the goddess is Shenbagavalli.
