Sikkal Singaravelar Temple  - Sikkal is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Murugan, worshipped here as Singaravelar. The temple is deeply connected with the divine story of Lord Murugan receiving the sacred Vel (spear) from his mother before destroying the demon Surapadman.

Devotees visit this temple seeking strength, courage, protection, and victory over enemies and obstacles in life.

According to temple history, the great sage Vashishta once stayed in this sacred place. Using butter prepared from the milk of the divine cow Kamadhenu, the sage created a Shiva Lingam made entirely of butter and worshipped it with great devotion.

After completing the worship, he tried to lift the Lingam, but the Lingam stuck firmly to the ground and could not be moved. Because the Lingam became “stuck”, the place came to be known as Sikkal.

Another important legend described in the Kandha Puranam is closely associated with this temple. At this temple, Lord Murugan receives the powerful Sakthi Vel from his mother, Goddess Vel Nedunkanni Amman, who has a separate shrine here.

Using this divine Vel, Lord Murugan went on to destroy the demon Surapadman, restoring peace and dharma.

Even today, during the famous Surasamharam festival, a miraculous event is believed to happen. When the Vel is ceremonially given to Lord Murugan from his mother’s shrine, the idol of Murugan is said to start sweating, symbolizing the divine energy before the battle.

Pariharam
