Sri Ramalingaswami 108 Shiva Temple is a powerful Shiva temple near Kumbakonam, deeply connected to the Ramayana history and dosha nivarthi pariharam.

To remove the Brahmahatti Dosham (sin) acquired by killing Ravana, Lord Rama and Seetha consecrated and worshipped Lord Shiva at Rameshwaram. However, he could not completely purify himself from the sin caused by killing Ravana’s brothers Karan and Dhushan.

To remove this remaining dosham, Lord Rama consecrated 107 Lingams and worshipped them at Papanasam. He then requested Sri Anjaneya to bring one Lingam from Kasi, making the total count 108. The main Lingam established by Lord Rama is known as Ramalingeshwarar, and the Lingam brought by Sri Anjaneya is called Hanumantha Lingam.

The Goddess here is Arulmigu Parvathavarthini. A special feature of this temple is that Kamadenu is also present along with Nandhidevar in front of the Moolavar Sannidhi, which is considered highly auspicious.
