Long ago, Lord Vishnu needed the Sudarshana Chakra to defeat the demon Chalandaran. To acquire this divine weapon, he came to Thiruveezhimazhalai and performed sincere worship to Lord Shiva.

Lord Shiva instructed him to offer 1000 lotus flowers in devotion. Vishnu followed the instructions carefully, but when he reached the 1000th flower, it mysteriously disappeared.

Determined to complete his worship, Vishnu offered one of his own eyes in place of the missing lotus. Touched by this extraordinary devotion and self-sacrifice, Lord Shiva appeared and blessed Vishnu with the Sudarshana Chakra, fulfilling his mission.
